Indigo Dyeing at Prairieland Herbs

Indigo is a natural dye that produces a beautiful blue color. Historically, this was highly valued, as blue dyes are rare. It is the blue associated with blue jeans.

Indigo Magic!

Tuesday, July 18th, 6:00 – 7:30 pm.

This class is not a formal lecture, but is all about PLAYING. We will have an indigo vat ready to use. You bring items to dye - cotton or other natural fiber, t-shirts, fabric, or clothing items, yarn, fiber, buttons, basketry materials - anything you like, as much as you like. We will provide gloves, a space to get messy, and a variety of items to use if you want to scrunch, twist, tie or bind your fabric to make nifty designs. Wear clothes that can get dyed/messy.

A range of cocktail bitters

Bitters were originally created as "medicinal tonics" of herbs and spices preserved in a spirit. Today, the strongly flavored bitters are a staple in high end cocktails.

Make Herbal Bitters

Tuesday, August 8th, 6:30 – 7:30 pm.
Tuesday, August 22nd, 6:30 – 7:30 pm.

Join Heather, bartender and co-creator of Damn Fine Bitters in a two-part class to learn about bitters history, usage, creation, AND to make your own bitters!

In the first class, you will be given the tools to create your own blend of bitter herbs and spices, and begin your bitters infusion. Heather will help you decide on a flavor profile and what to add to achieve your desired bitters. After a two-week interruption to give the ingredients time to infuse fully, we will get back together and finish the process! You will leave class two with your very own bottle of self-made bitters!
